About the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counselling

The Department of Guidance and Psychological Counselling is a programme within the Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences. The aim of this programme is to train qualified psychological counsellors/guidance counsellors. The Department provides 4-year undergraduate education. Our programme first started to admit students in 2018. In our programme, both theoretical and practical courses are given. Related courses contribute to the progress of students in both education and psychological counselling.

Education and Training

In our programme, besides educational courses such as Philosophy of Education, History of Turkish Education, etc., there are theoretical and practical courses specific to the field such as Developmental Psychology 1-2, Culturally Responsive Psychological Counselling, Vocational Guidance Practices, Psychological Counselling Theories, Psychological Counselling with Individuals 1-2. In addition, students can take elective courses in the field or professional knowledge / general culture elective courses. In our programme, theoretical courses are carried out in technology-supported environments. Applied courses are carried out in practice rooms (e.g. Psychological Counselling with Individuals rooms) or schools affiliated to the Provincial Directorate of National Education under the supervision of Practice Instructor or Practice Teacher.

Working Areas

Graduates of our department can work as school psychological counsellor / guidance teacher in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, teacher and pedagogue in the Ministries of Family and Social Policies and Justice, psychological counsellor in psychological counselling centres, psychological counsellor in the Presidency of Religious Affairs and psychological counsellor in institutions such as the Turkish Armed Forces and the General Directorate of Security.
